The Fascinating Meridian System
of the Body

The meridian system of the body is an amazing and fascinating energy-carrying channel system found running throughout the body. It is a system that the Chinese have known about for thousands of years and is the foundation for acupuncture.  Working with this system has high potential to affect organs and muscles deep within the body.

How Many Meridians Does the Body Have?

Through the body run twelve principal energy pathways referred to as meridians. These twelve pathways are actually one continuous pathway that rises to the surface twelve times so it divides the pathway into segments.  Each segment runs through and is named for a primary organ or system that it services.

In addition to the twelve principal pathways are eight extra pathways which are considered to be meridians.  Two of these are important ones called the "central" and "governing" meridians.  Because of these additional two meridians you will sometimes see information which refers to the body as having fourteen meridians, meaning the twelve principal meridians plus these two.

Acupuncture and the Meridian System

The meridian system is what acupuncture is based on.  Acupuncture works to dislodge blocks within an energy pathway and help the energy flow smoothly.  This is done by placing needles along those pathways at certain points where the energy pools in the body referred to as acupuncture points.  An electrical current is then run through those needles.

Tapping and the Meridians

The healing modality of tapping is very closely connected to the meridian system of the body.  Correction of negative beliefs in this modality is done by tapping on points of the body associated with each meridian.  The tapping stimulates the flow of energy through each meridian correcting and releasing any blockages that may be there.

The Emotion Code, The Body Code and the Meridians

In the Emotion Code trapped emotions are identified and then released by running a magnet over the Governing Meridian.  The Governing Meridian was chosen because it affects all of the principal meridians.

The Body Code includes the Emotion Code so is connected to the meridians in that area, but it also includes an area within its “Circuitry” section where imbalances in the meridians can show up.

As you can see, these two modalities are also closely tied in with the meridian system of the body.

Other Healing Modalities and the Meridians

Many other modalities such as acupressure and Reiki tie in closely with this system of the body while other modalities such as ZPoint, Reflexology, and essential oils are more indirectly related.  They most certainly affect the energy flow of the body even if they are not working directly and specifically on the meridians themselves.

Importance of the Meridian System

It is important to be aware of this system of the body in understanding energy medicine.  It is one of the key energy systems of the body along with the aura and the chakra system and as has been explained is quite closely tied to many healing modalities and most certainly tied to every modality in some way or another.
